First Lt. Rachael Stone, an instructor pilot with the 32nd Flying Training Squadron, and 2nd Lt. Andrew Barstow, a student pilot with the 32nd Flying Training Squadron, submitted the winning Air Force Ball theme and logo design competition hosted by the Vance Air Force Ball planning committee.

"The winning logo and theme will be featured on wine glasses, programs and hopefully other items, depending on how successful fundraising events are this year, said 2nd Lt. Joshua McNelley with the Air Force Ball planning committee.

The Vance Air Force Ball is scheduled for Sept. 17 at the Oakwood Country Club in Enid, Okla.

The logo, designed by Barstow, includes the three training aircraft flown at Vance climbing out of a cloud and crossing the face of a full moon. The theme, created by Stone, is "Proud past, promising future."

"I just saw a flier hanging up in my squadron," Barstow said. "I did that kind of stuff in college and figured that it'd be better than studying," he said with a chuckle. "I'm really excited to see my design used for the ball. I've never even been to an event like that," he said.

"I like the history we have here and I learned a lot about it by researching all the aircrafts," said Stone. "I thought it would be really nice to have something classy that mentioned our past and the future of the Air Force," she said.

"I'm artistic, and with all the ideas I heard about, I thought I could come up with something pretty good," said Stone. "I was pretty jazzed when I found out I won," she said.

Barstow and Stone each received two tickets to the Air Force Ball for winning the contest.

Barstow plans on taking his girlfriend to the ball.

Stone has a prior commitment, so she plans to put her tickets up as a prize at a Company Grade Officers' Council event in September.
