Forty Vance NCOs have opportunity to retrain Published July 19, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Frank John Casciotta 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Approximately 40 Vance AFB Airmen from 12 Air Force specialty codes will be eligible for the yearly NCO retraining program. The NCORP is a 16-year-old program that optimizes the enlisted force structure by ensuring current and future NCO requirements are met, said Master Sgt. Jay Hoth, career assistance advisor for the 71st Force Support Squadron. Airmen on the NCORP vulnerability list who meet certain requirements will have the chance to voluntarily retrain into another AFSC during the first phase of the program, said Hoth. If all positions are not filled by the end of Phase I, Phase II begins. Phase II is involuntary, and AFSCs that have not been filled, will be filled by Airmen on the vulnerability list. For NCOs in unrestricted AFSCs, Phase I of the program began July 13 and will end Sept. 16. For NCOs in restricted AFSCs, it will end Aug. 11. "Don't fear the unknown. You don't know what you don't know," Hoth said, pointing out that retraining isn't necessarily a bad thing. "I retrained the first time during the NCORP in 2000. It can open doors to new experiences." Airmen selected from the vulnerability list during Phase II can expect to receive a retraining notice no later than 10 days after Phase I ends. The master vulnerability list is updated every Wednesday at 3 p.m. and can be found at the Air Force Personnel Center website.
