DBIDS registration must be done by July 1 Published June 15, 2011 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Vance personnel have been registering their ID and common access cards with the Defense Biometric Identification System since Jan. 1. DBIDS is an Air Force-wide security system used to prove identity and determine fitness eligibility for individuals requiring or requesting installation access. All members of the Vance community, including military family members, are required to have their ID cards registered in DBIDS by July 1. In 2008, Peterson AFB in Colorado Springs, Colo., was the first continental United States base to use DBIDS. Vance implemented the program this past year. "It's another tool to enhance security," said Charles McPhail at the Visitor's Control Center. For active duty members and their families, government civilians, and Common Access Card eligible contract employees, this process only takes about two or three minutes. For non-CAC eligible contractors who require a DBIDS card, an installation access application must be completed prior to registration. The registration process itself can take up to 10 minutes. When people arrive at the gate, security forces will use a hand-held device to scan ID cards and locally developed passes. The scanner will tell the guard whether or not the individual is authorized access to the installation and will provide other installation access and law enforcement sensitive information. The process takes no longer than how guards previously checked an ID card so no additional delays are anticipated at the gate due to DBIDS. To register, ID card holders should go to the Visitor's Control Center between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. All personnel must register in person and have their current ID card with them. For more information on how to register with DBIDS, contact Mr. McPhail at 213-5528.
