Biggest Loser competitors aim to drop 1,250 pounds by April Published Jan. 26, 2011 By Senior Airman Wes Carter 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Vance's fourth annual Biggest Loser competition is in full swing as 38 teams are competing against each other to see who can lose the largest percentage of weight. Unlike the popular television show, the competition will not eliminate people, but it is set up to encourage people to lose weight through healthy life choices. "Anyone can shed some weight for a month," said Kellie Jensen, a health and wellness coordinator on base. "Our goal is for people to develop a lifestyle that promotes a proper exercise and diet regimen." Each month contestants will meet at the fitness center here to check their progress and compare to other teams. "The three teams that have recorded the highest amount of weight loss will be given a prize to mark their accomplishment," Mrs. Jensen said. "This is one way we are encouraging people to stick with the program and continue to change their lives for the better." Overall winners will be named at the final weigh in on April 8. At that weigh-in, not only will the top team be rewarded but also the top male and female loser. "It is always exciting to see the numbers people post throughout the competition," Mrs. Jensen said. "As a group we are trying to lose a combined 1,250 pounds." Understanding that not everyone in the competition is a gym or nutrition expert, the Health and Wellness Center has classes available to help. "We offer several different types of classes that promote a healthy lifestyle," said Mrs. Jensen. "Everything from a fitness center introduction class to smoking cessation to how to eat right is offered." The classes offered at the HAWC aren't just for Biggest Loser competitors.
