  • Published

Name:  Capt. Mark Murphy

Duty:  T-1 Instructor Pilot, 32nd Flying Training Squadron

Hometown:  Emporia, Kan.

Favorite PT regimen:  Running

Mission contributions:  On his final supervisor-of-flying tour before moving to Randolph AFB, Texas, Captain Murphy ended his tenure with a bang. It was the coldest day of 2011 and he was instructing one of Vance's newest supervisor of flying student. He worked hand-in-hand with the Operations Group to determine usability of inside and outside runways and taxiways following a crippling snow storm.

Captain Murphy implemented block plan to mitigate T-1 and T-38 congestion of the center runway after the outside runway was deemed unsafe due to ice. He expertly handled primary and secondary radar outages at the Air Force's sixth busiest airfield. Despite air traffic control being blind, Captain Murphy was still able to accomplish the mission.
