Fundraisers require proper planning, especially during CFC, AFAF Published Oct. 13, 2010 By Staff Sgt. Brandon Blunt 71st Flying Training Wing Legal Office VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Fundraising is a great opportunity for private organizations, such as the Enlisted Spouses Group and the Officers Spouses Club, to earn a bit of extra money. However many people may be unfamiliar with the Air Force's guidelines for fundraising during the Combined Federal Campaign and Air Force Assistance Fund. The Air Force officially endorses only two fundraising activities a year, the CFC and the AFAF. The CFC runs from Sept. 27 to Nov. 5. During these two campaigns, all other fundraising activities at the workplace are prohibited. How to distinguish between "at the workplace" and "away from the workplace" is a useful tool to keep good-intentioned people out of trouble during these fundraising campaigns. For fundraising purposes, the workplace includes offices, hangars, and the flightline. Away from the workplace includes base quarters, entrances, lobbies or concourses of buildings, schools and chapels. If a fundraising event will be held away from the workplace, it may be held during CFC or AFAF, as long as it is approved by the 71st Flying Training Wing commander and does not detract from the CFC or AFAF campaigns. Examples of this would be car washes held at the service station parking lot or bake sales held in the Army and Air Force Exchange Service lobby. Private organizations and other fundraising entities have nine months out of the year that do not conflicting with the CFC or AFAF. So a good rule-of-thumb would be to plan your functions and events accordingly and remain flexible. To start the fund raising process a fund-raising request form must be submitted through Jeff Patton, the 71st Force Support Squadron's quality assurance evaluator, 213-6553, for coordination through the proper channels.
