Vance Airmen Return From Deployment Published Sept. 14, 2010 By 2nd Lt. Tyler Gross 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla -- Vance Airmen around the world work tirelessly to accomplish the mission of the U.S. Air Force. Airmen 1st Class Tynisia Hains and Jordan Brown, recently returned from deployment to Iraq, are no different. The two security forces Airmen who served on a security forces quick reaction force, played an important role in the joint mission during their deployment. "We had the opportunity to work with members from other services and to see what the mission is all about" said Airman Hains, a member of the 71st Security Forces Squadron. "It was a great opportunity to see the mission of the other services and to understand just how important the joint mission is." Airman Hains, who worked as a .50-caliber machine gunner on a Humvee, described her experience as "occasionally scary, but also very rewarding." Also a member of the 71st SFS, Airman Brown's favorite part of the deployment was interaction with the local population. "The kids in the neighborhood knew us, it was great to interact with them and know that they liked us." The two Airmen did not stop their service to the country through their deployment. Both volunteered at the USO at Joint Base Balad, Iraq, so they could help out their fellow Servicemembers while deployed. Both Airmen expressed their happiness at being home, but also a great sense of accomplishment at having had the opportunity to serve their country. "It was really great to see how well the people back home supported us," said Airman Brown. "I felt as though I was not only missed, but that people really cared about my mission and success while I was deployed." Airman Hains, who is a newlywed, said she was glad to be back with her family and was ready to spend time with her husband and daughter.
