This week, the Base Auditorium was an entertaining scene as some of Vance's youth joined the Missoula Performing Arts Camp and prepared for a performance of the play, "King Arthur's Quest," a quirky spin on the old classic tales of King Arthur and his knights.

Over the course of the week, the kids learned the entire production, including singing, dancing, and memorizing speaking roles, in anticipation of their one performance - at noon, Saturday, July 24, in the Base Auditorium, Bldg. 550.

For 40 years, Missoula Performing Arts has toured the nation and other Air Force bases, encouraging kids to step out of their comfort zones by rehearsing fun, engaging plays. Each camp runs for a week, ending in a final performance of the play.

This is Vance's fourth consecutive year hosting the camp, and each time it has been a success. Kate Holdeman, Youth Services director at Vance, predicts this year will also provide a wonderful performance. The kids are having a great time, she said. They have natural acting ability, and the program is a good fit for their imaginations, she added.

A good deal of the work falls on the camp counselors, she explained. They prepare the scripts, props, costumes, host extra workshops and auditions, and help the kids prepare for the performance. "Their positive guidance and good attitudes are contagious," Miss Holdeman said, with a laugh.

In the first two days, the kids had already learned several songs and lines by heart. Their excitement and determination to put on a successful performance was obvious. "It's really a team effort. They all work closely together to learn their parts," Miss Holdeman said.

The performance of "King Arthur's Quest" is free and open to all Team Vance members. For more information, call 213-7474.
