Vance motorcycle riders form Chapter 83 of the Green Knights Published July 21, 2010 By Angel Dominguez Airman & Family Readiness Center VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Vance AFB now has a new club, the Green Knights, a unique group of people who share one common bond -- they enjoy riding on two wheels. The Green Knights is a military motorcycle club, originally formed in 1999, with chapters world-wide. Vance's Green Knights club is Chapter 83. The club's main emphasis is to bring awareness to Department of Defense motorcycle riders and to others who do not ride. First and foremost, the Green Knights stand for safety. Although Oklahoma law does not require a helmet while riding, the Green Knights do. The club fosters camaraderie, promotes and encourages rider education and skills development, provides a means for new riders to find experienced riders as mentors and promotes motorcycle awareness on and off base. Joining the club connects a motorcyclist with a network of Green Knights riders, locally, across the country and around the world. The club is open to all DOD personnel, family members and base contractors. All styles of motorcycles are welcome to include sport bikes, sport-touring bikes and cruisers. The club helps a rider develop better situational awareness through rides with a responsible, safe, fun-loving group. A group of Vance motorcyclists recently rode to Okarche, Okla., for a chicken dinner and had a blast. Although they were not an official Green Knights chapter at the time, all the club rules of safety were followed, including a pep talk from Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Don Bretz, who rides a cruiser himself. The Vance chapter is so new there hasn't been an official meeting yet. Riders, and non-riders, interested in participating should contact Angel Dominguez, 213-7873, or Tech. Sgt. Richard White, 213-7266.
