Buyers and sellers alike will flock to the annual Base Yard Sale from 8 a.m. until noon May 15 at the base picnic area. The picnic area will be sectioned off and reserved by Team Vance members to sell personal items to the general public.

The Hairston Gate, located off of Southgate Road, will be open for traffic flow directly to and from the base park area. This group-style yard sale has been a hit for the past 15 years, and is not only used by individual sellers, but as a fundraising opportunity for Vance's private organizations as well.

"This is the only time on-base residents can host a garage sale of any type, so I know many people who stock up items all year long that they plan to sell at this event," said Kristan Nowland, spouse of Col. Chris Nowland, 71st Flying Training Wing commander.

Any Vance personnel, including military, government employees and contractors are welcome to reserve a space by calling 213-7348 or stopping by Equipment Rental in Bldg. 244 during business hours. If tables are needed, one can be rented for $1 from Equipment Rental and must be picked up on Friday, May 14. Picnic tables can be rented for $2 and will be placed in the reserved area. Items restricted from sale are food, pets, alcohol and firearms.

Volunteers to help set-up and direct traffic are needed. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Jeff Patton at 213-6553.

"The Vance Yard Sale is a great place to make a little off what you have, and to pick up quality used items you need," explained Mrs. Nowland.
