Vance's 2010 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign ended Friday, March 19. Team Vance donated a total of $35,505.

"The campaign went very well," said Capt. Kevin Seay, an instructor pilot with the 32nd Flying Training Squadron and the base point of contact for this year's campaign. "We were able to contact 100 percent of eligible donors and had 41 percent participation from active duty members, raising 136 percent of our monetary goal." The campaign began Feb. 8 with a kickoff luncheon held at the Airman & Family Readiness Center. The money raised for AFAF is used to provide emergency assistance loans for Airmen and their families, education grants and aid for families of retired members.

There are four parts to the AFAF: The Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Enlisted Village, the Air Force Village and the LeMay Foundation.

The AFAS provides emergency assistance to Airmen and their families, and sponsor educational and proactive community programs to improve their quality of life.

The Enlisted Village provides temporary housing for surviving spouses of enlisted members who die on active duty and permanent homes for the surviving spouses of retired enlisted Airmen. More than 1,500 surviving spouses have lived at the Enlisted Village since 1975.

The Air Force Village provides care for retired Air Force officer widows who need financial assistance.

The LeMay Foundation, founded by Air Force Gen. and Mrs. Curtis LeMay, awards grants to enlisted and officer retirees and their spouses.

"All of the group representatives did an exceptional job," said Captain Seay. They were Capt. Darwyn Klatt, 71st Operations Group; Master Sgt. Steven Reddecliff, 71st Mission Support Group and Tech. Sgt. Tiesha Benson, 71st Medical Group. Master Sgt. William Howell was the point of contact for the 71st Flying Training Wing Staff Agencies.

Vance is currently in fourth place in the Air Force for percentage of goal raised and third place for active duty participation.
