Due to recent attacks on U.S. consulate personnel in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the U.S. Northern Command and the 71st Flying Training Wing commander have tightened travel restrictions to Mexico for Air Force personnel.

New restrictions prohibit travel to the Mexican states of Durango, Monterrey, Matamoros and Coahuila. Already prohibited for travel is the state of Chihuahua and the communities of Tijuana, Nogales, Cuidad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Acuna, Piedras Negras, Reynosa, Matamoros, Las Palomas, Agua Prieta, Sasabe, Naco and Sonoyta.

Also restricted from travel is any portion of Mexico within 50 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Those affected by the travel restrictions are active duty members, reservists and National Guardsmen in Title 10 status assigned or attached to the 71st FTW or tenant units at Vance AFB.

Guardsmen in Title 32 status, Department of Defense civilians, contractors and family members are strongly discouraged from travel in the restricted areas.

All active duty military and reservists are required to receive a threat briefing and receive an Air Education and Training Command Form 29B prior to traveling overseas for leave, permanent change of station or temporary duty. Family members, contractors and Department of Defense employees are also encouraged to receive the threat briefing.
