A group of Team Vance members were recognized for their superb efforts Jan. 14 during the 71st Flying Training Wing quarterly awards ceremony at the Vance Collocated Club.

This is the first time in recent history that the quarterly award winners from the base's infrastructure support contractor, CSC Applied Technologies LLC, and its three subcontractors-- PRI/DJI, DenMar, and M1 Support Service, participated in the awards ceremony.

Department of Defense federal employees and military personnel quarterly award winners were selected by 71st Flying Training Wing leadership; the CSC and sub-contractor employee quarterly award winners were selected by a committee drawn from all areas of the contract. Both sets of winners and nominees were recognized together at the quarterly awards ceremony.

"We want to represent all of our team," Col. Rick Murphy, 71st FTW vice commander, said of the partnership involved with the flying training mission at Vance. "This is truly a team effort."

While not all contracted employees at Vance are represented by the infrastructure support contractor, CSC and it's subcontractors have over 900 contract employees who provide the base with services ranging from aircraft refueling to operation of the base gym.

Staff Sgt. Jacqueline Hearing, 71st Medical Operations Squadron, started the ceremony with the singing of the national anthem.

Before the winners were announced, Capt. Mike Akins, 71st MDOS, gave a presentation on the Airman's Creed. This section of the quarterly awards program was added by Chief Master Sgt. Kenui Balutski to highlight the significance of different verses of the creed.

The quarterly awards are broken down into 10 categories with two to seven nominees.

  • Airman of the quarter - Senior Airman Joseph Santiago, 71st MDOS
