Vance conducts internal audit of ESOH compliance Published Sept. 16, 2009 By 2nd Lt. Chris Carrillo 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- This week, a Vance team of 15 auditors is performing an internal audit to evaluate the base's overall compliance with environmental, safety and occupational health laws and regulations. The annual internal audit is part of the Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Compliance Assessment and Management Program (ESOHCAMP). The program calls for a team of auditors to "identify areas of non-compliance, identify positive observations and suggest improvements," said Lt. Col. David Stewart, the 71st Mission Support Group deputy commander. Vance's audit team consists of military, civilian and contractor personnel from the Environmental Branch, Bio-environmental, Public Health and the Logistics Readiness Squadron. As with past ESOHCAMPs, this year's audit encompasses all organizations, tenants and contractor operations at Vance. The audit team distributed a schedule prior to commencing the audit. The team is scheduled to outbrief findings to the 71st Flying Training Wing's vice commander and members of the ESOHC at 3 p.m., Sept. 24, in the wing conference room, Bldg. 500. Air Force Instructions require Air Force installations to perform internal audits two out of every three years, with an external audit every third year. Once findings are distributed, each organization will be responsible for completing all required closure actions according to the management action plan developed after the audit. Organizations are encouraged to close findings "on the spot" whenever possible. Closure actions must be verified before they are closed. Safety and Bioenvironmental Engineer team members will assess items that overlap with the environmental program.
