Wiles 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Seasonal flu vaccinations will be given to military members at Vance, beginning Sept. 18. A team from the 71st Medical Operations Squadron immunizations clinic will visit units through Oct. 1 to deliver the vaccinations. The vaccination, FluMist, is given as a quick spray into each nostril, said Staff Sgt. Travis Sullivan, assistant NCO in charge at the immunizations clinic. An injection will be given to those age 50 and over. The immunizations team is scheduled to be in Bldg. 179, Sept. 18 and 25, from 8 a.m. to noon, to inoculate the flying squadrons. The team will be at Bldg. 500, Sept. 21 and 22, from 8 a.m. to noon. On Sept. 23, the team will be at the 71st Security Force Squadron three different times to cover the three shifts: 6 to 7 a.m., 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. On Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, the immunization team will be at the Community Chapel Activity Center, Bldg. 528, from 8 a.m. until noon for all military active duty, family members and retirees. The FluMist vaccination is also available to military members at the Immunization clinic in the 71st Medical Group. Beginning Oct. 2, the flu vaccination will also be available to family members and military retirees at the Immunization clinic. This vaccination is for the seasonal flu. A vaccination for the H1N1 influenza, when it becomes available, will only be given to active duty members, said Sergeant Sullivan.
