Vance AFB is hosting the third annual Adventure Race on Sept. 19.

The race will start at the base park with a 4.2-mile run down Southgate Road to Meadowlake Park where participants will raft two miles on the park's lake and then bike 12 miles back to base.

"This is a great competition, with huge bragging rights for the winners," said Brian Mittelstet, CSC Applied Technologies fitness center manager. "Every year the race has had more participation and we expect a great turn out this year."

Teams can be formed as relays or extreme teams. The relay teams consist of three to six people, with one or two team members taking on a single event of the race. Extreme teams consist of four individuals that race all three events together.

Checkpoints will be set up along the course to ensure accountability and keep teams together.

"It's an absolute blast and the perfect event for squadrons, families or friends to take part in," said Mr. Mittelstet. The race is open to all military members and their guests.
Registration is $10 per person, which includes a T-shirt, race number and use of a raft, paddles and lifejackets for the race.

All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt.

After the race there will be a picnic, award ceremony and a drawing for a mountain bike and various cash prizes.

Local sponsors of the Adventure Race include Buffalo Wild Wings, Tinker Federal Credit Union, USAA, The Bike Shop, ERA Nicholas, Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Pope Distributing, Gatorade, Roberts Ranch, Larry's Home Oxygen and Finer Physiques.

Teams must register not later than Sept. 14. For more information, call the Fitness Center, 213-7670.
