The owner of the Chick-fil-A restaurant at the Oakwood Mall in Enid, Okla., has opened a unit at the Vance AFB Base Exchange for a 90-day trial that began Aug. 10.

The first day went very well, said Connie Sturgeon-Hart, the owner. "It was way better than I expected."

Located next to the optical shop in the base exchange mall, the Chick-fil-A will offer a limited menu because there are no cooking facilities in the present location. Hours of operation initially will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For now, only cash is accepted. "We don't have a phone line for the debit/credit machine," said Ms. Sturgeon-Hart.

"If the 90-day test is successful, cooking equipment will be installed," said Linda Lowe, the services business manager from the AAFES facility at Tinker AFB, Okla.

According to Ms. Sturgeon-Hart, the food is cooked and prepared at the Oakwood Mall store and transported to Vance daily.

"We want to see how well it is received and if the folks on base are going to use it," said Ms. Lowe.
