More than 150 Team Vance singles took advantage of a free meal July 27, served up by volunteers from the Wing Staff Agencies, in the Community Chapel Activity Center at Vance.

The menu featured western favorites like chili, baked chicken breast, beans and cornbread, dished up by folks wearing cowboy hats and packing cap-firing six-shooters. The meal was July's installment of the Singles' International Gourmet Meal Opportunity.

"Each month we have a different unit on base organize the meal," said Chaplain (Maj.) Mike Martin. "So they don't have to reinvent the wheel, we give the unit guidance on how much food they will need. We don't want to run out before everyone is fed," he said.

Deserts, donated throughout the day, included cakes, pies, cookies and chocolate covered pretzels.

Left-over food was donated to Our Daily Bread, a local soup kitchen.

The SIGMO meal can be eaten at the CCAC or carried out if necessary. This was the first SIGMO for Second Lt. Matthew Dinsdale and Navy Ensign Andrew Conner, both student pilots in Class 10-09. They packed up the western food in carry-out containers because their next class started in 15 minutes.

Those who stayed to eat were entertained by Chaplain (Maj.) Donald Bretz's guitar accompanied stylings of classic cowboy songs.

SIGMO is open to single and unaccompanied active duty Airmen and families with deployed spouses. The next SIGMO meal will be served Aug. 31.
