A ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the first newly constructed field grade officer homes in The Landings at Vance July 23.

The new three-bedroom, two-bathroom house at the ceremony will be the residence of Maj. Sonny Hignite, his wife Mary, and their three children. Major Hignite is a T-38C Talon instructor pilot with the 25th Flying Training Squadron at Vance.

"We've known for about three or four months that we'd be moving to the new house," said Mrs. Hignite. "We're very excited."

The Hignite family is scheduled to sign a lease on Monday, July 27. Despite the move being between two houses on base, the government will fund the move.

"Sonny and I agreed not to do the move on our own, since he is deployed," explained Mrs. Hignite. "The moving office has scheduled two days for packing and one day for relocating all our things. We should be in the new house by next Thursday."

A total of 30 new homes are being constructed in the base's residential area, managed by Pinnacle Hunt. Aside from the nine homes for field grade officers that have already been completed, 16 homes will be built for company grade officers and five will be built for Vance's senior commanders.

After the families in the older homes at The Landings have relocated, some of the residences will be renovated and used for overflow housing. Others, including all two-bedroom houses, will be demolished.
