Smith completes 24-mile training run in Alaska Published July 22, 2009 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Maj. Jason "Santini" Smith didn't quite reach his goal of completing the Crow Pass Crossing run in under four hours last Saturday just outside Anchorage, Alaska. His time for the 24-mile run over a mountain pass, through a glacier-fed river and across rocks, roots, snow and gravel was 4 hours, 18 minutes, 14 seconds, placing him 53rd among 119 finishers. "It was a good training run," said Major Smith, a T-38 instructor pilot with the 25th Flying Training Squadron here at Vance. He is training for the Leadville Trail 100-mile ultramarathon scheduled Aug. 22 in Colorado.
