Warrior of the Week -- 1st Lt. Chris Avery Published July 15, 2009 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Name: 1st Lt. Chris Avery Duty: T-6 Instructor Pilot, 8th Flying Training Squadron Hometown: Annapolis, Md. Favorite PT regimen: Weight lifting, triathlons Mission contributions: Lieutenant Avery flew more than 26 hours in two weeks instructing students, becoming the number one pilot in the squadron for flying hours. During one training sortie, Lieutenant Avery managed to recover from an Attitude Heading and Reference system failure, landing safely. While on the ground, he spent his time working on the squadron heritage room, where he reorganized the area, replaced old equipment, and raised squadron funding by 2,000 percent through squadron T-shirts, visors, and other memorabilia. Currently, Lieutenant Avery is enrolled in a master's degree program and Squadron Officer School.
