Effective immediately, all military personnel assigned to Air Education and Training Command are prohibited from traveling to or through any portion of Mexico located within 50 miles of the United States and Mexican border.

The affected area includes the communities of Tijuana, Nogales, Cuidad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Acuna, Piedras Negras, Reynosa, Matamoras, Las Palomas, Agua Prieta, Sasabe, Naco and Sonoyta.

Personnel are also prohibited from traveling anywhere in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

The travel prohibition applies to permanent-party military personnel at AETC installations, military students attending training on AETC installations, recruiters and personnel assigned to AETC at geographically separate locations.

While the travel prohibition does not apply to foreign students, it is highly recommended they follow the guidance.

Those requesting exception to this policy will do so in writing to the 71st Flying Training Wing commander with reasons the travel is necessary.

Though all other areas within Mexico are not off limits, the following policy is in effect for Vance personnel traveling to Mexico whether for temporary duty or pleasure.
Vance active-duty personnel and students will:

· Receive current Antiterrorism Level I/Threat briefing through the wing antiterrorism officer located in Room 5A, Bldg. 527. For more information, call 213-7230.

· Receive from the antiterrorism office an AETC Form-29B showing date of Level I briefing and current travel restrictions and embassy and consulate emergency telephone numbers. It will also include emergency telephone numbers for the Vance Command Post.

· Obtain unit commander's signature on Form-29B, acknowledging personnel will be traveling to Mexico.

The antiterrorism office will forward to the Command Post any changes to the threat.
The Command Post will in turn notify respective commanders to determine if leave or travel should be rescinded.

Although family members, civilian employees and contractors are not required to comply with the travel restriction, the same information and briefings are available to them.

For more information, call 213-7230.
