Planning, hard work makes a successful move Published April 28, 2009 By Jean Forshee Traffic Management Office VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A successful permanent change of station move is not a matter of chance. It is the result of planning and hard work. Military members expecting a good move must play an active role in planning the move. When you receive PCS orders, contact the Traffic Management Office, 213-7470, to schedule an appointment. You will be given a date and time to meet with a counselor. At the appointment, the counselor will prepare the paperwork requesting the date you want the carrier to pick up your household goods. The counselor will also explain all of your entitlements, including your weight allowance. The weight allowance is based on your pay grade. Once you know the allowance, it is your responsibility to stay within the allowance to avoid paying excess cost. When the counseling is complete, your paperwork will be sent to the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office in San Antonio. JPPSO will book your shipment with the carrier. They should notify you by e-mail the date and the name of the carrier that will pick up your shipment. If you do not hear from JPPSO, contact the TMO office and they can provide the information. When the carrier arrives at your residence, it is your responsibility to be ready. If you incur any problems, notify the Quality Control Inspector, 213-7186. For more information on a successful move, contact TMO.
