Vance AFAF campaign kicks off March 5 Published March 11, 2009 VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Vance commanders and Air Force Assistance Fund key group representatives, met for a chili lunch March 5 at the Airman & Family Readiness Center to kick off the 2009 campaign. The luncheon featured chili prepared by the A&FRC staff, including Angel Dominguez' own award-winning recipe. Col. Richard Murphy, the 71st Flying Training Wing vice commander, pointed out that the AFAF receives no taxpayer funding. "Throughout my career I've seen the AFAF used in great ways to help members of our community," he said. The AFAF has four parts: Air Force Village Foundation, the Air Force Aid Society, the Gen. and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation and the Air Force Enlisted Village. Go to http://www.afassistancefund.org/ for more details on each. "These funds depend on each one of us for support and are some of the best examples of Air Force people taking care of their own," said Col. Chris Nowland in a recent AFAF campaign memo. He also pointed out that 95 cents or more of every dollar contributed is spent directly on assisting Air Force members and their families. "The AFAS provided $56,000 in aid for Team Vance members in 2008," said Colonel Murphy. The Vance campaign will run from March 9 to April 17. Capt. Kris Ostrowski is the base point of contact. Tech. Sgt. James Smith and a team of key workers will assist in conducting this year's fundraising drive.
