Participants in Vance's Biggest Loser weight-loss competition dropped half a ton at the first weigh in Feb. 6.

The 245 participants lost an average of 2.07 percent of their body weight, totaling 1,005 pounds, during the first four weeks of the competition.

"It was such a fun day, watching the people coming in to weigh," said Kellie Jensen, fitness program coordinator with CSC. "Almost everyone lost a few pounds. They were so excited and that makes it fun to be a part of it."

Through April 10, teams of four will compete to lose the most weight. Team members will be weighed in once a month. Helping teams along, the Health and Wellness Center is offering fitness and nutrition classes each month of the competition. This is the second year for the competition here.

"My weight loss goal for the overall competition is 2,500 pounds," said Ms. Jensen. "So I was very happy the first weight in totaled more than a thousand pounds." The next weigh in is March 6.
