The 32nd Flying Training Squadron has won the Vance AFB Commander's Trophy for the third year in row, with a total of 242 points for participation in intramural and extramural sports throughout the year. The commander's traveling trophy is awarded annually to the squadron with the highest total points.

The program allows the squadron to build morale in a different venue, breaking away from the day to day monotony, said Capt. John Schwartz, 32nd FTS sports representative. "The competition is a lot of fun, providing a great outlet, with teamwork from instructors and students working together for excellence."

The point system for the trophy is based upon three categories: participation points, league points and championship points. Participation points are awarded for each squadron and its participants who complete league play. League points are based on a squadron's ranking at the completion of the sport or fitness event and championship points are given to championship and runner-up squadrons for both intramural and extramural sports.

"This is our third straight Commander's Trophy win and this last year every squadron seemed to want a piece of us because of our recent dominance," said Captain Schwartz. "It provided [the 32nd] with more challenges, but we always love a new challenge and take pride in excelling," he said.

"We feel the teamwork, leadership, and drive for success in athletics aid us and directly relate to building and developing ourselves as Air Force officers and leaders," said the captain.
