SABC rodeo to round up stragglers Published Oct. 22, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Brian Hill 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 71st Flying Training Wing is offering Team Vance Airmen the opportunity to get caught up on self-aid buddy care hands-on training through an event called 'SABC rodeo.' Five 90-minute classes are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., Oct. 31, at the Vance community chapel activity center. The last class of the day begins at 2:30 p.m. A maximum of 60 Airmen can participate in each class. According to Tech. Sgt. James Smith, 71st Medical Group flight medicine element NCOIC, six sections will be covered in the course: antidote treatment, nerve agent, auto-injector, airway management, bleeding/shock, bandaging, splinting and expedient transport. Twelve SABC instructors from throughout the wing are slated to instruct the courses. "This will allow for 300 people to be trained in one day," Sergeant Smith said. Per Air Force instruction, Airmen are required to attend SABC refresher training every 24 months. "There will continue to be instructors throughout all of the squadrons," said Sergeant Smith. "The medical group is an advisor on this program and is leaning forward to ensure that the requirements for the AFI are met." In addition to the hands-on training, Airmen are also required to complete the Advanced Distributed Learning Service's computer-based training SABC course (a hyperlink to the ADLS Web site is located on the Air Force Portal). This CBT must be done within 60 days prior to the hands-on training, and Airmen must bring an ADLS print-out to the training, Sergeant Smith said. Certificates of completion will be handed out at the end of each class. Airmen are encouraged to hand-carry a copy of the certificate to their unit deployment manager for documentation purposes. An additional rodeo is scheduled for Nov. 19. "I think this is something we need to do as a wing to get everyone spun up on the hands-on portion of the training," Sergeant Smith said. "We really hope to get a good turn out."
