Tech. Sgt. Jeremy McGill fulfilled a childhood dream Friday, Oct 10, when Maj. L.M. Stringer, the 71st Security Forces Squadron commander, presented Sergeant McGill his Security Forces badge.

A heavy-equipment operator with the Oklahoma Air National Guard in Tulsa, Sergeant McGill was activated January 2007 and came to Vance. He was assigned to the 71st SFS and has learned on the job.

"I didn't know he wasn't a cop when I got here," said Major Stringer. "He's doing a phenomenal job as one of our flight chiefs."

A group of his now "fellow" security forces gathered Friday at the flag pole by the Security Forces building to see Sergeant McGill officially receive his badge and additional Air Force Specialty Code.

He started his Air Force career at Minot AFB, N.D., as a heavy equipment operator in 1996. After four years he transferred to the Air National Guard in Tulsa in 2001.

Sergeant McGill joined the Air Force under a general enlistment contract. "But I've wanted to be a cop since I was a kid," he said.

His activation should run through at least Sept. 30, 2009.
