Combined Federal Campaign -- opportunity to help those in need Published Oct. 8, 2008 By 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 2008 Team Vance Combined Federal Campaign kicked off Oct. 6, and the base is well on its way of meeting its goal of raising money to help others. The Combined Federal Campaign was created to give federal workers an opportunity once a year to contribute to charitable organizations that support human health and welfare. Col. Mark C. Nowland, 71st Flying Training Wing commander, said the wing's CFC drive is a convenient way to help those who you feel need it most, and support the causes you value. Team Vance gave $100,720 during the 2007 CFC drive. "CFC ultimately serves to help people, not to reach goals or set records," said Colonel Nowland. "To give perspective to how little is required to do much good, if each eligible federal employee at Vance set aside 2 percent of their monthly base pay, the sum would be Enid area's greatest CFC total yet. "I hope each of you will feel inspired to give generously during this campaign," said Colonel Nowland. "The Federal employees in Central Oklahoma make significant contributions through their generous gifts during the Combined Federal Campaign to support important causes at home and abroad," said Patti Ford, Chief of Staff, Tinker AFB, and chair of the 2008 CFC of Central Oklahoma. "In 2007, 11,680 federal employees and military personnel contributed $3,136,747 to charities here in Oklahoma and throughout the world. Fifty-one percent of those funds remain here in the Central Oklahoma area providing assistance to our own community," Ms. Ford said. According to Capt. Kris Ostrowski, the Vance CFC project officer, there are 1,533 national and international charities and 38 local charities for donors to choose from. "Federal civilian and active duty military, including Guard and Reserve on-duty, can use payroll deduction, checks, money orders or cash to make their CFC contribution," said Captain Ostrowski. This year's campaign continues through Nov. 14. For more information go to http://www.vance.af.mil/combinedfederalcampaign.asp on the Vance Web site.
