Vance massage therapists expand availability hours Published Aug. 18, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Brian Hill 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Oklahoma -- Team Vance can now relax, rejuvenate and revitalize morning, noon and night. Contract massage therapists Savannah Lohn and Katie Barfield are available for massage appointments 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 7 p.m. every other Saturday. "Katie and I saw a need for it," said Savannah Lohn, who, along with Ms. Barfield, is a certified massage therapist through Central State Massage Academy in Olkahoma City. "This makes it easier for military members and their dependents to come in, and we're located right here at the base gym. Someone could come in on their lunch hour and get a 30-minute massage." According to Ms. Lohn, the benefits of massage include increased circulation, decreased tension and pain, increased energy, greater ease of mobility and decreased stress levels. Massages offered here include one hour and half hour massage, chair massage, pregnancy massage, reflexology, and a 75-minute hot-stone massage. Massage is also now offered on a new table. "The old one was pretty stiff and was looking a bit like a lethal injection table," said Ms. Lohn. According to Ms. Barfield, each massage can be customized to individual needs. "Some like lighter massage and some like deeper pressure," she said. "We can cater to whatever bothers them." Call the base gym at 213-7670 to book an appointment or inquire about prices. Appointments must be booked out at least one day in advance. "You used to have to come in to sign up and then you'd have to pay in advance," said Ms. Barfield. "Now it's easier for everybody."
