More than 50 people attended the Focus 5/6 Star Search talent contest June 20 at the Vance Collocated Club. A harmonica player and a young singer took first places in their age groups.

Brittany Lostetter, daughter of Lt. Col. Vincent Lostetter, 71st Operations Support Squadron commander, took first place in the under-18 category, singing "You Don't Know Who I Am."

Kyle Rowland, cousin of Tech. Sgt. Joshua Kovanda, 71st Medical Group, took first place in the 18-and-over category playing blues on the harmonica.

Staff Sgt. Trae Clark, 3rd Fighter Training Squadron, is the Focus 5/6 president, and served as the Star Search master of ceremonies. Focus 5/6 is a professional organization for Vance staff and technical sergeants.

"Star Search was very successful. It was a packed house with every table filled," said Sergeant Clark.

The contestants were judged by a panel of three: Senior Airmen Amanda Robinson, 33rd Flying Training Squadron; Matthew Petway, 71st Comptroller Squadron; and Sylvia Ransom, 71st Medical Group.

In the 18-and-over category, second place was captured by Tech Sgt. Jeremy McGill, 71st Security Forces Squadron, singing George Strait's "Check Yes or No," and third place went to Nathan Johnson, singing "Guys and Dolls," from the musical by the same name.

The evening ended with the audience coming on stage and singing karaoke.
