Navy commander takes over Air Force training squadron Published June 23, 2008 By Public Affairs staff 71st Flying Training Wing VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Navy Cmdr. Roger L. Curry assumed command of the 8th Flying Training Squadron June 20 during a ceremony here. He replaced Air Force Lt. Col. Neil E. Woods, who will become the 71st Operations Group deputy commander. Col. Douglas E. Troyer, 71st OG commander, passed the 8th FTS guidon to Commander Curry, signaling the transfer of command during the ceremony in Hangar 170. Commander Curry was the 8th FTS operations officer prior to taking command of the unit. The 8th FTS instructs Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps flying students in the T-6 Texan II, a single-engine, two-seat primary trainer.
