Great NCOs aren't born - they're made.
That is what Focus 5/6 is all about - making good NCOs into great NCOs.

"Junior NCOs are the backbone of the Air Force," said Tech. Sgt. Todd Rosenzweig, 71st Security Force NCO in charge of Squadron Standardizations-Evaluations. "We are charged with molding today's Airmen into highly productive war fighters through mentoring, evaluating and providing feedback to our leaders and subordinates."

Focus 5/6 will foster esprit de corps, while creating a unified voice for junior NCOs at Vance Air Force Base and assist in tackling cross-functional enlisted issues on and off duty, Sergeant Rosenzweig explained.

"We are hoping to create a tight-knit group that extends past squadron and group boundaries," he said. "Focus 5/6 members will develop junior NCO leadership and management abilities through networking across the wing, and members will have a say in the direction of the organization."

The group's direction will also head into philanthropy as well, he said.

"We will assist in sponsoring base events, fundraising and conducting NCO enrichment seminars centering on Professional Military Education learning courses and social activities," Sergeant Rosenzweig said.

Airmen taking care of Airmen - that's how Chief Master Sgt. Eugene Kampe described Focus 5/6.

"This group of dedicated staff and technical sergeants will take on many leadership opportunities from mentorship and customs/courtesies to planning a wing dining-in," the acting wing command chief said. "You can sense the excitement at the prospect of mentoring other Airmen and the benefit they gain from crosstalk among Vance NCOs."

Focus 5/6 meets on the second Friday of every month at the Vance Collocated Club in the Enlisted Lounge. The next meeting takes place at 5 p.m., Nov. 9.
Membership will start in January. Dues cost $20 per year.
