CFC in full swing at Vance Published Oct. 24, 2007 By Capt. Tony Wickman Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 2007 Team Vance Combined Federal Campaign kicked off Oct. 12, and the base is well on its way of meeting its goal of raising money to help others. The Combined Federal Campaign was created to give federal workers an opportunity once a year to contribute to charitable organizations that support human health and welfare. Col. Richard Klumpp. Jr., 71st Flying Training Wing commander, said the wing's CFC drive is another great way for Team Vance to lead the way. "Team Vance raised more than $85,000 last year, and are we are working hard to match or surpass that mark this year," he said. "I know the generosity shown by the people at Vance last year made it a record-breaking year in AETC, but more importantly it got needed funds to worthy causes and people. "I'm asking people to contribute what they think they can afford to help. Contributing what you might spend on a latte coffee in the morning each day might not be much of a commitment from your perspective, but I guarantee it will make a huge difference to someone who benefits from CFC." Gen. William Looney, Air Education and Training Command commander, called the CFC an occasion for AETC's military and civilian personnel to give back to the community. "Your contributions made a difference in the lives of many of your friends and neighbors. Our communities are better for it," he said. According to Capt. Joe Shamess, Vance CFC project officer, there are more than 2,400 charities worldwide that can benefit from people's donations. "This is our chance to make a difference in the lives and needs of people in our communities, nation and world," he said. "Our goal is to generate a legacy of giving amongst our Team Vance family." Captain Shamess said that every federal employee is eligible to donate and that donations can be made by check, or better yet, direct payroll deduction. He said every CFC unit representative is equipped with the proper literature and can assist anyone with their questions. "Every dollar counts and no contribution is too small," Captain Shamess said. "So far we have contacted 89 percent of the base's people. Our goal is to have 100 percent contact so everyone at Vance has the opportunity to give to the CFC if they want the chance," he said. This year's campaign continues through Nov. 21. Unit Representatives: 71st Operations Group 1st Lt. Rob Burgon 3rd Fighter Training Squadron Capt. Eric Pauls 5th Flying Training Squadron Master Sgt.
