Five Vance Airmen receive nonjudicial punishment Published Aug. 15, 2007 71st Flying Training Wing Staff Judge Advocate Office Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- The following Article 15 actions were imposed against Vance AFB personnel during the second quarter of 2007: A senior airman who drove while under the influence of alcohol received reduction to airman first class, with a suspended reduction to airman, forfeitures of $729 pay for two months and a reprimand. An airman who engaged in an unprofessional relationship and obstructed justice received a suspended reduction to airman basic, suspended forfeitures of $650 pay for two months and a reprimand. An airman who engaged in adulterous relationships with two women and made a false official statement received a reduction to airman basic and a reprimand. An airman basic, who was absent without leave and failed to inform his first sergeant that he was on a shaving waiver, received suspended forfeitures of $729 pay for two months and a reprimand. A second lieutenant who fraternized with an enlisted member received a forfeiture of $500 and a reprimand. An Article 15, also known as nonjudicial punishment, is a disciplinary measure normally used to promote positive behavioral changes in service members without the stigma of a court-martial and federal conviction. Action under Article 15 can be based on a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice or violations of state or federal laws. Punishment under Article 15 can affect promotions, assignments and re-enlistment opportunities.
