15 Vance Airmen selected for promotion Published Aug. 15, 2007 By Capt. Tony Wickman 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- Fifteen Vance senior airmen were part of the 15,130 Air Force-wide recently selected for promotion to staff sergeant. The Air Force selected 15,130 of 36,608 eligible senior airmen for promotion to staff sergeant, with all being notified during the first duty hour Wednesday. One Vance selectee was Senior Airman Latasha Fauntleroy from the 71st Comptroller Squadron, who was surprised to hear she made the list. "I was totally surprised. You hear people say they made it on their second or third time testing, but it was my first time so I didn't assume I made it," she said. "My commander played it off smoothly like we (Senior Airman Dustin "Brad" Suggs and her) didn't make it, but then he told us." For Senior Airman Jermaine McCrea of the 71st Mission Support Squadron, making staff sergeant is another step in his desire to make the Air Force a career and obtaining his goals. "I was a wreck yesterday waiting to find out, I probably shouldn't have been at work," he said. "This morning my commander and the superintendent came down and announced I made it in the (military personnel flight). It was shocking and a surprise. I'm ready to be a staff sergeant." The Vance senior airmen selected were: Joshua Braswell, 71st Security Forces Squadron; Jennifer Chambers, 71st Security Forces Squadron; Karriem Oliver, 71 Flying Training Wing; Jotham Radford, 71st Operations Support Squadron; Jermaine McCrea, 71 Mission Support Squadron; Nicholos DiCarlo, 71st Communications Squadron; Aaron C. Haviland, 71st Communications Squadron; Rebecca Wardell, 71st Logistics Readiness Squadron; Andreia Mitchell, 71st Medical Support Squadron; Amy Nichol, 71st Medical Support Squadron; Carl L. Moore, Jr., 71st Medical Operations Squadron; Travis M. Sullivan, 71st Medical Operations Squadron; Latasha Fauntleroy, 71st Comptroller Squadron; Dustin Suggs, 71st Comptroller Squadron; and, Trae Clark, 33rd Flying Training Squadron. The staff sergeant selection rate, 41.33 percent, rose 5.46 percent from last year. "The promotion opportunity for this year is outstanding," said Chief Master Sgt. Rusty Nicholson, enlisted promotion branch chief at the Air Force Personnel Center. "This is a great day for the United States Air Force and a significant event for the Air Force's newest group of noncommissioned officers." The average staff sergeant selectee score for the 07E5 staff sergeant test cycle was 270.71 points, based on the following: -- 131.72 Enlisted Performance Reports -- 55.99 Promotion Fitness Exam -- 54.33 Specialty Knowledge Test -- 2.15 Time in Grade -- 4.72 Time in Service -- 0.85 Decorations "For this cycle there are 4,894 enlisted Airmen that are still to WAPS test, primarily due to deployment," Chief Nicholson said. "Upon their return, they will be provided the 60-day study time prior to testing and then automatically be considered via the monthly supplemental process."
