Shrove Tuesday at the CCAC well attended Published Feb. 28, 2007 By 2nd Lt. Agneta Murnan 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- Roughly 300 sausage patties, 450 pancakes and loads of candy were consumed by the 200 plus attendees at the Community Chapel Activities Center on Shrove Tuesday. Hence the nick name "Fat Tuesday". Shrove Tuesday festivities "come from a tradition of using up all of your fats in storage before Lent," told Teresa Hess, Volunteer Catholic Religious Education Coordinator at the base chapel. Teresa Hess has coordinated this event for the past four years. With over 20 volunteers manning the kitchen, serving lines and carnival booths, the event's success could be measured by the gleeful children running around with purple, gold and green streamers and bags full of candy. Among the volunteers were several members of the Enid Council 1044 Knights of Columbus, including Grand Knight, Doug Chown. The games included basketball shots, Frisbee toss, a fishing game, cookie walk, bean bag toss and a moon walk.
