Vance dorms battle for who's best Published Jan. 22, 2007 By A1C Jennifer Jackson Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- The Vance Air Force Base enlisted dorms are competing against each other in several events for bragging rights. The Dorm World II competition kicked off with a 5K run Oct. 1 and continues through January. "The dorm competition has selected events that provide dorm residents with fun, team-building activities and a way to have a good time," said Wing Command Chief Master Sergeant Jeff Kallas. The run earned Dorm 423 six points and Dorm 421 five points. SrA Michael Eichenberger, 71st Communications Squadron, took first place, second place went to Amn Kacey Chong, 71st Medical Group, and A1C Kristy Dalton, 71st Mission Support Group, earned third place. They all received $10 in club bucks. "The run gave the lower ranks a chance to coordinate the event and dorm residents a chance to get out and compete for their dorm building," Airman Eichenberger said. "It gave me a chance to realize how sore you get from not running on a regular basis." Upcoming events include the bowling challenge at 1 p.m. today, a dodge ball competition, a scavenger hunt, Tug-of-War, a holiday decoration competition and the final challenge, Battle of the Dorms. The bowling challenge will be broken into two five-person teams from each dorm, with a minimum of two females per team. There will be three games rolled to get the total pin score. This is a mandatory event for the competition and earns the winning dorm six points. Chief Kallas said he will pay for up to three games per competitor. He also warns that he's an excellent bowler and may be standing by to challenge the winner. To sign up, call Amn Arianne Desmarias at 6158. Volunteer work with base organizations also plays a part in the dorm competition. This can include community work, chapel programs, skills development centers and family support. All volunteer work has to be turned in by Jan. 13. This is also a mandatory event. The final event, the Battle of the Dorms, will be the tie-breaker if needed. This event includes a water bucket brigade, a balance beam and a tricycle relay. The winner is determined by totaling points from all the events. The best thing about the competition is that each dorm will be a winner. There are T-shirts for each dorm resident that participates with the winning dorm. There are also parties up for grabs, which will have additional prize drawings, and there are other prizes for certain events and for the most participation.
