25th FTS helps Holsinger Home Published Jan. 22, 2007 By SrA Amanda Mills Public Affairs Vance Air Force Base, Okla. -- The 25th Flying Training Squadron visited a local foster home Saturday to play with the children and help with yard work and other fix-it projects. The squadron chose the Holsinger Home as its charitable organization. "The 25th wanted to establish a long-term relationship with an organization in the local area," said Capt Beth Makros, squadron charity officer. "We considered a number of organizations and decided the Holsinger Home would be an excellent fit." Twenty-seven squadron members and spouses cleared out the garden, weeded the flower beds, cleared out an overgrown yard space and cleaned inside the home. After the work was done, everyone played with the children. "I think everyone who participated had a great time," Captain Makros said. "I was amazed by the turn out." Spending any amount of time with the children makes their day, said 1st Lt Chad Rogers. "They get the idea that someone cares about them and is available to spend time with them," he said. "We played a little soccer and catch and took some pictures with them after we helped with some yard work around the house. Seeing the kids having a good time and their faces light up is well worth a few hours of our time on a Saturday. The home's foster parents are thankful for the squadron. The squadron's future plans for the home include trick-or-treating with the children today within the flying squadrons, a holiday party in December and some spring cleaning early in 2005.
