Good teamwork leads to number one standings in most endeavors and duty status reporting is no exception. Good teamwork has put Team Vance at number one in the Air Force.
"From July through December 2003, Vance Air Force Base was number one Air Force-wide in (temporary duty) reporting," said Capt Devin Washington, personnel flight commander. "This was accomplished through the hard work of the unit duty status monitors.
"Sandi Ott, the wing's duty status program manager has done a remarkable job in conjunction with the squadron duty status monitors. But without everyone's continued support, this program will not work."
Duty status reporting is an essential tool allowing commanders to know the names, types, numbers and availability of personnel. Duty status data gives a clearer picture to headquarters, Air Force Personnel Center and major commands of a unit's available strength, which ultimately impacts on who is tasked with operational and exercise commitments. Duty status reporting directly affects personnel tempo reporting. PERSTEMPO data (who's gone and how long) is reported to the Air Staff, Joint Staff and other Department of Defense agencies that make decisions on force management and quality of life issues.
"From the commanders on down, it is every active duty military member's responsibility to notify their unit before departure of TDY and upon return," Captain Washington said. "Your unit has in and out processing procedures in place, so please help us continue to be the best in the Air Force by checking in with your unit the next time you're scheduled for a TDY."
