The number of alcohol-related incident-free days continues to grow at Vance Air Force Base thanks to the wing safety day prior to Memorial Day weekend.
Safety reported no serious incidents over the start of Air Education and Training Command's "Operation Summer Survivor: Xtreme Challenge."
The safety office is glad the weekend went well and believes part of the success is due to the May 27 safety day information, according to Randall Hakman, 71st Flying Training Wing ground safety manager.
"The day's briefings were a big success," Mr. Hakman said. "Every unit also briefed its members and reminded people to think about safety over the three-day break."
On and off duty, the Air Force mission needs its people to survive.
"I want to thank everyone for returning safely from the holiday weekend," said Col. Bryan Benson, 71st FTW commander. "Your safety is paramount to our success."
Safety and the wing's goal is to complete the operation's 101 Critical Days of Summer on the same track as its opening weekend.
"We need everyone's help, from members to supervisors and even commanders, if we are going to have a shot at a fatality- or serious injury-free 101 days," Mr. Hakman said.
To accomplish this, the safety office has some themes for units to use each week throughout the campaign, Mr. Hakman said. Units can choose from off-duty activity subjects including sports and recreation risk management; automobile fitness; personal fitness; lawn maintenance and more. Articles and information will be published and available throughout the 101 days and basewide safety events will be planned.
For now, Team Vance survived the Operation's first days.
"Thanks to everyone for all the hard work in making the Safety Day a huge success, during and after," Mr. Hakman said.
