Only 22 more days until Christmas.
Don't hurry the shopping though, Christmas in April only requires giving time to help others as Team Vance members will be joining other Enid area volunteers April 23 for the one-day event.
The mission of Christmas in April in partnership with Rebuilding Together, is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly and disabled, and families with children live in warmth, safety and independence.
"The assigned homes will require carpentry, flooring, dry wall and plaster work, weather-stripping, painting, trash pick-up and various miscellaneous tasks for both skilled and unskilled volunteers," said Mollie Babb, volunteer coordinator. "It may sound like a lot of work, but it's amazing at what can be accomplished with the right skills, organization and most of all, team work."
The team work was one of the highlights for Master Sgt. James Fuller, 71st Medical Group, was one of the volunteers from Vance Air Force Base last year and plans to participate again this year.
"I really enjoyed working with other Team Vance members that I wouldn't interact with normally during day-to-day duties. It was a great experience helping the local community," Sergeant Fuller said.
People interested in volunteering, either individually or as an organizational group, may call Mrs. Babb at 234-4446 by
April 15. Volunteers will meet at Government Springs Park in Enid 8 a.m. April 23 (April 30 is a rain date). Lunch and a T-shirt will be provided to all volunteers.
