The 71st Comptroller Squadron recognized their outgoing and incoming honorary commanders at a luncheon Tuesday at the Vance Club.
Kip Miles, 2004 honorary commander, was presented a memento from the squadron and Brad Boeckman, 2005 honorary commander, was welcomed.
Maj. Mike Wilson, 71st CPTS commander, thanked Mr. Miles for his contributions to the squadron during the last year and offered a meet-and-greet between the new commander and the comptrollers.
"Throughout this past year, it was our mission to ensure our honorary commander felt as if he was part of the unit," Major Wilson said. "I also wanted to ensure the unit knew who their new honorary commander was and that they had the opportunity to say farewell to our departing one."
When asked what he gained from being an honorary commander, Mr. Miles said "The thing that surprised me the most was the broad scope of things on base and the number of people I already knew from associations within the community. I was tremendously impressed with the people I met."
The honorary commander program has been operating at Vance Air Force Base since 2000. During this time, 51 community leaders have served as an honorary commander. Honoraries serve for a period of one calendar year and are provided a myriad of tours on base to familiarize them with its operations. The wing, groups and squadrons all have an honorary commander assigned and each unit's program is specifically designed toward sharing experiences and ideas.
