The Vance Chaplain Corps took a "Leap of Faith" with student pilots training at the Aerospace Physiology parachute landing fall training facility Oct. 10.

Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Randall Groves, the 71st Flying Training Wing chaplain, and Tech. Sgt. Durrell Edwards, a chaplain assistant, met with a new class of 24 Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training students and talked about services available to through the chaplain corps to support resiliency.

"Every three weeks we go out and visit squadrons to help improve relationships," said Groves about the Vance-specific program. "The more we get out of the office and do visits like these the more our counseling sessions go up."

Pilot training is hard and stressful, said Edwards. It is crucial for the chapel staff to establish a relationship with students when they start class to ensure they will be resilient throughout UPT. The Leap of Faith gets this conversation started.

Counseling opportunities offered by the chapel include relationship, marital and premarital, personal and pastoral counseling. The chapel also offers faith and non-faith based counseling.

"We are bringing the deployed ministry to the wing level," said Groves.
