Mental Health technician named Airman of the Month Published Oct. 2, 2014 By Senior Airman Frank Casciotta 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- A 71st Medical Group mental health technician is the 71st Flying Training Wing Airman of the Month for September. Senior Airman Danielle Jamison was selected by group superintendents based on her work performance and merit as an Airman. Jamison's supervisor hatched a devious plan to convince her she was in trouble for a fabricated incident to keep her off-guard. "I got the whole chain of command involved," said Staff Sgt. Michael Buchannan, the 71st Mental Health Services NCO in charge. Jamison was called to, what she thought was a recognition ceremony for someone else in the medical group followed by a "bad airman" session with the command chief. When her name was called she tentatively made her way out of the crowd. "I remember thinking how awkward it was going to be to receive an award, just to be yelled out a few minutes later," said Jamison a Charleston, South Carolina native. "When they asked for a speech the only thing I could get out was: 'I'm not in trouble?' After that I felt like I could breathe again." As a mental health technician Jamison helps Airmen and families who are dealing with something difficult in their lives. "I love what I do because I get to help people work through their problems," said Jamison. "We make them comfortable, learn some of our patient's history and give our assessment to the mental health provider." "She has a multitude of skills," said Buchannan "She handles patients really well, I never have to worry about her behavior - I trust her implicitly." Jamison earned her bachelor's degree in psychology before joining the Air Force in 2010. "I want to get my master's degree and make it into the NCO crops," said Jamison. "Once I do that I'll decide if I want to try to commission or stay an NCO. Either way I will stay in the Air Force."
