The Prescription Drug Disposal Box here found a new home in the Visitor Control Center Aug. 4

The disposal box's move from Build 249, the Security Forces Squadron headquarters is an effort to make the box more available to Team Vance personnel and Enid residents.

"This gives people a designated place to dispose of their expired drugs and out of the hands of those who will abuse them," said Staff Sgt. Remmecya Lavant, a 71st Security Forces investigator. "We wanted to make it easy for people to dispose of their (prescription) drugs. This new location not only makes the box more accessible to Team Vance, but Enid residents as well, since the VCC is not on base."

The box here is the 168 disposal box placed in Oklahoma. Last year, more than 30 tons of prescription drugs were collected from the disposal boxes.

Since its placement at Vance in April more than 45 pounds of prescription drugs found their way into the disposal box, said Lavant.

The box is now part of a state program and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics is responsible for collecting and disposing of drugs deposited there.
