Camp Tomahawk wraps up girls week at Vance Published June 19, 2014 By 2nd Lt. Isabel Crump 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- Vance wrapped up the last day of Camp Tomahawk for local, under-privileged children June 13. Camp Tomahawk, a free summer camp for children ages 9 to 11 years old who may not otherwise have the chance to attend a summer camp, is funded by the Enid Chamber of Commerce. This year 14 girls attended the second week of camp, which is dived into a week for boys and a week for girls. The girls visited the Alabaster Caverns, took 20-minute rides in planes at the Woodring Airport in Enid, visited Frontier City, played games at the base park and visited the Plains Pool here. Elicia Porter, a 2014 camper, said her favorite part of camp was the counselors, and she was going to miss the friends she made. More than 50 Team Vance members volunteered to support the summer camp this year. "I've enjoyed getting to know the girls and knowing I'm helping with such a great organization," said 1st Lt. Rachel Quirarte, an officer awaiting pilot training and Camp Tomahawk counselor.
