Airfield Operations Flight named AETC 2013 complex of the year Published March 12, 2014 By 2nd Lt. Justin Nichols 71st Flying Training Wing Public Affairs VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. -- The 71st Operations Support Squadron, Airfield Operations Flight, is the Air Education and Training Command Airfield Operations Flight Complex of the year for 2013. This award is for the best Airfield Operations flight, which includes radar approach control, tower and airfield management Airmen. The last time the flight won the award was 1994, 19 years ago. Some of the flights accomplishments included an AETC benchmark for their dual qualification program, an "Excellent" in the 2013 Consolidated Unit Inspection and contributing more than $850,000 in estimated savings for the year. At Vance, the RAPCON supports 230,000 air traffic control movements per year making it the third busiest RAPCON in the Air Force. The tower supports 58,000 air traffic control movements per year, and airfield management supports the third busiest airfield in the Air Force. The flight is also number one in AETC for the production of air traffic control 5-levels with more than 18,000 training hours.
