OSC Silent Auction set for March 8

VANCE AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. --  The annual Officers' Spouses' Club Silent Auction is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at the Vance Air Force Base Collocated Club.

The OSC hosts the event each year to support scholarships for military dependents at Vance AFB.

The Silent Auction is a good way to give back to the community, said OSC's Honorary President Melissa James. All of the proceeds from the auction go directly back to military families in the form of scholarships.

"This is a wonderful way to support our military dependents and the OSC scholarship program," said James. "Last year we raised $19,000 in scholarships for our military families from events like the Silent Auction and Holiday Marketplace."

"The Silent Auction is open to everyone with base access and directly impacts the Vance community. I hope to see us break $20,000 this year," said James.

Items to be auctioned include a one-year membership to the Oklahoma City Zoo, a skateboard and tickets to Tipsy Artist. Many other items have been donated by local businesses.

During the auction, attendees have the option to pay to put someone in "jail" as a way to prevent that person from bidding. That person can then pay a fee to get out of jail.

Shoppers will be invited to choose a bottle of mystery wine from the "wine tree" for a $5 donation.

"We're hoping that people come out and have a good time," said Ankie Richard, OSC president. "The scholarships we offer are available to military dependents, as well as dependents of government employees and contractors."

In addition to the Silent Auction, the OSC scholarship program is funded by the annual Holiday Marketplace and sales from the Vance AFB Thrift Shop.
