More than 2,000 members of the public attended the Vance Officers' Spouses' Club Holiday Marketplace Nov. 9 at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center in Enid.

While children took photos with Santa, parents shopped for homemade items including crafts, toys, home décor and food. Vendors and businesses from across the state came to showcase their handmade items.

Each year, the Officers' Spouses' Club hosts the Holiday Marketplace to raise money for the organization's Charitable Giving & Scholarship fund.

According to Christina Evans and McKenna Luke, OSC Holiday Marketplace chair and co-chair, about 100 vendors set up shop.

According to Evans, about 10 of those vendors were businesses owned and operated by military spouses.

Danell Skorupski, Air Force spouse and owner of La Bella Belle, makes burlap handbags and also sells handmade rugs. "It's a great opportunity to get a head start on the holiday season," Skorupski said, in between customer orders.

Laura Rice, owner of L Embroidery & Design, showcased trendy tote bags, scarves and embroidered baby bibs and clothing items. Rice's husband, Capt. Lee Rice, is a student pilot at Vance AFB.

Many other military family members took part as well.

In addition to vendors, volunteers play a big role in making the Holiday Marketplace a success.

OSC historian and volunteer Elizabeth Seis, wife of 2nd Lt. Michael Seis, a student pilot at Vance AFB, worked at the front door, taking donations and helping each family get that important photo with Santa Claus.

Without Seis and the other volunteers, the Holiday Marketplace wouldn't operate so smoothly.

The OSC received more than $8,000 in donations from this year's event. The money will help various charities and offers scholarship money to military family members.
